This infographic’s purpose is to show the severity of Bangladeshi garment factory working conditions, and that the buyers, suppliers, and the government are all responsible for it. Bangladesh has the lowest minimum wages in the world, making them one of the most attractive sourcing options for clothing brands. Since clothing brands and buyers do not directly possess the factories, they feel less obliged to enhance working conditions. Suppliers, and even the Bangladeshi government, compete with other suppliers and countries to maintain enough sourcing orders. Such competition results in employees to work pass legal hours, in factories extremely vulnerable for fire, and to be treated inhumanely as if they are just a part of the whole industry. Although constant efforts for change exist, the cause and effect are intertwined with each other, thus making it hard to see what should be done.
